Okay, here’s my first blog post for 2014.
But wait, I’m still buzzing from last year! Why? Because professionally, SO many good things happened!
Three books released and launched, (Meet Ned Kelly, That Boy, Jack, I’m a Dirty Dinosaur) all to great reviews and sales, with publications rights of I’m a Dirty Dinosaur sold overseas to US and China and the sequel already contracted. As well, I’m a Dirty Dinosaur was chosen as one of ‘50 Books you can’t put down’ and chosen for the 2013 Get Reading! scheme and because of that I was toured to Tasmania and Northern Territory to give presentations in schools and libraries. Extra news! I also have two new books in the pipeline!
But special moments come in other ways too.
Like when a group of five children from Hahndorf Primary School, South Australia, create stunning lyrics and a singing/narration presentation of significant incidents from That Boy, Jack. No adult participation was allowed, as the presentation was the Creative Component section of The Readers’ Cup. The Reader’s Cup is an event where teams from selected schools vie to win the cup, based on their knowledge of 6 chosen books.
Watch the re-enactment below of the presentation by the very talented Sid Ayres, Alex Fletcher, Zoe Smith, Sophie Robertson and Meaghan Vogelsang.
Listen to their original, fabulous music and lyrics.
Go, kids and go, That Boy, Jack!
